# About NIOS Help Center

NIOS Help Center is a free, independent guide for people studying with India's National Institute of Open Schooling. We explain the rules, deadlines and processes NIOS publishes, in one place, in plain English, with the official source linked and the date we last checked it.

We are not NIOS. We are an editorial team that reads the official notices so you do not have to.

Why this site exists

NIOS information is public and free. It is also scattered.

To answer one ordinary question, a learner may have to move between nios.ac.in, the admission portal at sdmis.nios.ac.in, results.nios.ac.in, exams.nios.ac.in, the grievance system at grs.nios.ac.in, dled.nios.ac.in, notice PDFs on cdn.nios.ac.in, and whichever regional-centre website covers their state — the current list is the official Regional Centre directory on nios.ac.in, and each centre publishes slightly different things. Most notices are PDFs, and a changed deadline often appears as one line in a notification list.

That is hard for anyone. It is harder for the people NIOS actually serves: open-school learners, many of them Hindi-medium, reading long procedural text on a phone, usually at a bad moment.

The problems we exist to solve

These are the questions we see asked again and again. The site is built around them.

— Admission stuck "under verification". Students pay, then wait weeks or months with no enrolment number, and can do nothing without one. We document the common causes — photo and signature specifications, an unclear Aadhaar upload, a name or date-of-birth mismatch — and the escalation route.

— Being charged thousands of rupees by an "admission agent" for a form you can fill yourself. NIOS states publicly that it does not authorise private agents or coaching centres to handle admissions. We publish the free self-service path and sell no admission help of any kind.

— Fake NIOS websites and apps. NIOS publishes its own list of impersonating sites and apps, and an address to report them. We reproduce that official list and link it, instead of guessing which sites are fake.

— TMA confusion — who has to submit a Tutor Marked Assignment, whether it is compulsory, where this session's questions are, and what happens to the marks if you re-appear.

— On-Demand Examinations — which months they run in, how far ahead a seat must be booked, and why a subject may not be available at your centre.

— Result codes. RW, SYC, SYT, SYP, AB, IMPR, UFM. A code appears, a student panics, and almost nobody explains what to do next.

— Transfer of Credit, which is applied for at admission, allowed once, and final.

— Whether NIOS is accepted for JEE, NEET, CUET, universities and government jobs — including the difference between being allowed to appear for an exam and clearing an admission gate at counselling.

— Books that never arrived, when free official PDFs already sit on regional-centre websites.

— Dates that move. NIOS revises datesheets mid-session and has postponed papers at short notice, so our date pages show when we last checked them.

What this site does not do

We are not an admission centre, a study centre or an Accredited Institution. We cannot process an admission, look up your record, change your marks, release your result or fix your certificate. Only NIOS can do those things.

We do not take admission fees. We do not sell or supply solved assignments. We do not offer to "get you admitted", and we run no paid helpline.

How our pages are made

Every factual claim traces to a primary source — an official NIOS page, a regional-centre page, an official notice PDF, or a court or regulator document — and we link it. Where official sources disagree, we show both and say so rather than quietly picking one. Pages carry a byline and a last-reviewed date, and deadline pages carry a separate "verified on" stamp, so you can see how fresh the checking is and not just when the text was edited.

Some drafts are AI-assisted. Every published page is reviewed by a human editor against the primary source before it goes live. Our editorial policy sets out the sourcing, review, AI and corrections rules in full.

Who operates this site

NIOS Help Center is operated by Gyaniversity Publications, an Indian educational publisher. Postal: Gyaniversity Publications, India — the exact postal address is available on request by email. Naming the operator matters. It means a real, contactable publisher is accountable for what these pages say, rather than an anonymous site that disappears when it gets something wrong.

We also run independent help centers for other Indian boards and exams. Each is written for its own learners; nothing here is copied from them.

Everything here is free

There is no login, no account and no paywall.

Gyaniversity Publications also publishes paid NIOS study guides and runs an AI tutor. Where we recommend something we sell, we label it clearly on that page and name who publishes it. Commercial interest never changes what a factual page says, and our consumer-protection pages — agents, fake sites, grievances, study-centre problems — carry no product recommendation at all.

Much of the lived knowledge about NIOS was written down first by learners themselves, outside the official portals. The clearest example is the NIOS Unofficial community — nios-unofficial.info and nios-students.pages.dev — which publish learner-facing NIOS guidance and community discussion. They are not NIOS sites and they are not ours; we do not know how they are staffed or funded, so we do not describe them beyond what they publish. We link them and credit them, we do not copy them, and we think they are worth reading. As with anything unofficial, including this site, confirm a fee, date or rule on nios.ac.in before you act on it.

We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, authorised by, or connected to NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling), the Ministry of Education, or any Government of India body. The official NIOS website is nios.ac.in — always confirm dates, fees and rules there before you act on them.
